Briccio M. Merced, Jr., is currently the University Librarian of the University of the Philippines Mindanao, one of the founding members of the DAvao Colleges and Universities Network (DACUN). Brix, as his colleagues and friends would like to call him, also chairs the DACUN Library Committee since its creation in October 2003 up to the present. The Library Committee is the fifth of the seven committees created by the DACUN Executive Board. Brix has an undergraduate (1981, cum laude) degree in Library Science from Silliman University, Dumaguete City. He has masters (1990) and doctoral (1997) degrees in Educational Management from Notre Dame University, Cotabato City and another masters (2005) degree in Library Science from Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, Iligan City, all in the Republic of the Philipines. A national awardee as Oustanding Academic Librarian in 2004 from the Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians ( PAARL), he has been invited as research person and trainor at seminars, conferences, and workshops for librarians and information science professionals. A consumate career person, he takes his profession seriously and writes passionately about librarianship in both electronic and printed medium. On the sidelines, he teaches library and information science and recently, has added web page design and development to his varied life interests.
